LED light adjusts brightness and light colour to patient
Light therapy is the first choice for treating seasonal affective disorder. Light stimuli release energy in the human eye, which is accompanied by a transient energetic activation of the body. Researchers at the Fraunhofer Application Center for Inorganic Phosphors (AWZ) use this effect. Their concept: Patients should train themselves in positive thinking; light arouses the necessary attention.
For this, each patient should get exactly the light that best increases his attention. The Fraunhofer AWZ and project partners are developing an "activation module", in which the LED luminaire and filter are integrated. Thus, an individual brightness and colour perception of the light is possible. The wavelength can be adjusted in the range from 550 to 610 nanometers. A first prototype will be completed in early 2019 and the efficacy will be documented in a related study.
The WHO estimates, that around 300 million people worldwide are ill. In Germany about 5.3 million people are suffering from a depressive syndrome.
